Society not being creative and unique:

Shaheen, Robina. “Creativity and Education.Creative Education, Scientific Research Publishing, 27 Dec. 2010

  • This article is about the integration of creativity in education.
  • Before reading this article, I didn’t know there were efforts of some sorts taking place in Canada and the USA to integrate creativity in schools. Learning about all the efforts taking place around the world to integrate creativity within schools kind of changes my perspective on my previous argument (how school’s aren’t doing anything to implement creativity. But, it could also spark a new conversation, where students still don’t experience these creativity integration plans at first hand or that teachers may not fully integrate this way of teaching in their classrooms. This new subtopic could contribute greatly to my feature story.

Bronson, Po, and Ashley Merryman. “The Creativity Crisis.” Newsweek, 12 June 2010.

  • This article is about understanding the neurological side of creativity and what needs to be done in schools concerning creativity.
  • This article introduced me to the neurological aspect of creativity, meaning what goes on in the brain when someone gets creative. By now knowing the mental benefits when someone starts getting creative, I can implement this to my argument in my feature story. Also, I learned that creativity can be beneficial even when doing math and science as it helps in problem solving. When someone is being creative to solve a problem, both sides of the brain contribute to the problem solving. I could take this and again implement it in my story, contributing to my argument of society needing to be creative.

1- Kim, KH. “The Creativity Crisis: It’s Getting Worse.Idea to Value, 28 Apr. 2017

  • This article primarily talks about the current creativity crisis in schools today.
  • This article was more food towards my whole argument of creativity needing to be necessary, but I did indeed learn new things as well. For example, I was intrigued by the negative consequence of not taking risks and subconsciously teaching kids that being wrong isn’t ok. This therefore leads kids again not to take risks, but further hinders their creativity, as taking being ok with failure is pretty crucial in creativity. This changed my view on the topic, as it really worries me now how this could even affect success rates for people my age.

2- Rachel, Rettner. “Are Today’s Youth Less Creative & Imaginative?LiveScience, Purch, 12 Aug. 2011,

  • This article focused on the fear of losing creativity in young children.
  • This article definitely broadened my perspective on the severity of this issue at a very early age. I learned that one factor of the loss of creativity in young children is that they have less time to play due to overbooked schedules. As almost every other source was more directed to people my age and adults, getting this new information about young children definitely also broadened my perspective on how the loss of creativity isn’t really age specific, therefore raising my concern on my topic.

When society bashes creativity or uniqueness:
Serrano, Andres. Piss Christ, 1987

Society not being creative and unique:

  • People wearing the same things, doing the same things, acting the same way, etc…
  • This is definitely more of a recent string of ideas, as it’s a result of the lack in teaching creativity at a young age. By teaching kids to learn, act and even dress the same, kids are becoming less in-tune with what is true to them and what makes them happy; they just want to please others and not be different, especially in teenage years. This made me a little vexed and reflect on why people don’t wake up and start doing what’s good for them instead of what’s good for others.
