(Personal opinion on society’s lack of creativity): Why do people lack creativity? Well, in my opinion, it probably starts from early childhood. Right from the start, we are assigned set things to do and how to do them. For example, boys always have to play with trucks and girls have to play with dolls. Then as we grow up, boys are encouraged to wear certain types of clothing while girls are encouraged to wear others. Additionally, at a higher level of education, teachers and schools usually try to mold their students into the “perfect model”, consequently trying to make us be the same person as our neighbor. Throughout our time on earth, society always tries to mold us into the person we’re supposed to become (under other people’s eyes). By promoting this, people start to enter an endless loop of taking in other people’s wants and needs and becoming what society wants them to be. This is exactly where creativity is killed and where some people think art is useless. Art is a prime example of people not conforming with society and going their own way. Artists create art to express whatever’s on their mind, something people usually don’t do or are afraid to do. To top it off, whenever there’s an artistic movement that doesn’t resonate with people anymore, someone always finds a way to change the whole art scene and make it fresh again. This type of mentality can be applied to anything anyone does. For example, I was on YouTube awhile ago and came across a video of an extremely passionate salesman, something I’ve never seen before. The way he was selling the product was not only inspiring, but he went so outside of his comfort zone to sell the product that he was almost selling his advertising skills instead of the actual product. Another example of this mentality could be Steve Jobs and Bill Gates reinventing the home computer. Taking something that already existed and changing it radically in order to make it better demanded great amounts of creativity and imagination. Other examples of this way of thinking can include Elon Musk with the electric car, Oprah Winfrey with talk-show hosting and even Phil Swift with Flex-Seal. Whenever someone goes out of their way to either make something completely new or to improve something already existing, they are being creative and imaginative. When people do something the exact way the prior person did it, they will never stand out and will never succeed, which is something people always have on their minds. Now there may not be a clear answer on how to succeed in life, but in my opinion, starting to not act like everyone around could definitely put you on the right track. It just takes that extra push, whatever that push may be, to break the boundaries and start doing what you want to do, not what others want you to do. Finally, at the end of the day, it is your life and not someone else’s.
