Proposal

  1. Professional Photography
  2.
    1. I might open my feature story with my personal anecdote of when I picked up my first camera and having a former friend rant for hours saying that art and photography isn’t necessary in society. I will also mention the irony of my school displaying a pro-art mural in one of the hallways even though the school was heavily based around sciences.
    2. My investigative question in my story will be why do people consider photography not to be a legitimate and essential
    3. I will be challenging the conventional wisdom that photography and art in general are not essential for society to carry on.
  3. I want to write about this topic because it’s a topic that I have been thinking about for quite some time. I will be interested in researching all the different opinions about my chosen topic as well.
  4. I wish to learn about all the ways photography can or does impact the world already.
  5. My bigger picture ideas will be the on why people think that society doesn’t need art to carry-on and the psychology on the lack of harnessing one’s creative side. This could therefore lead into society being boring without uniqueness.
  6. My story seems to fall under the category of an investigation.
  7. My intended audience will be ambivalent young students.
  8. I want my article to provoke awareness within my audience about the necessity and maybe even promote that everyone should harness their creativity and uniqueness.

  10. I want my feature story to be about the need for photography / art in today’s society. I will start off again with my personal anecdote, then transition into the main topic. Before getting to the main topic, I will mention my school’s ironic actions of seemingly promoting art even though they truly weren’t about it. Mentioning the second short anecdote about my school’s ironic actions will add to the “anti-art” sentiment. I will then try to find similar situations with other artists or friends of the program having experienced similar backlash concerning their artistic ambitions. After talking about the anecdote, this is when I will be going into my first “bigger idea” which will be on why people think photography / art is useless. With this idea at hand, I will conduct research on the psychology / whatever happens in the brain that makes people think photography is useless and maybe talk about societal factors that contribute to this popular belief. After talking about this, I will then transition into my second bigger idea on how society tends not to tap in into their creative side. Within this topic of the feature story, I will talk about how society is becoming or has already become very linear and how everyone is just trying to do what the other person is doing. After this,  I could start talking about the advantages of promoting photography and art in today’s society. I will then conclude the feature story with something I’m still thinking of.
